About Chris Small

Picture of Chris Small

Growing up in Suffolk, Chris Small had visited Richmond many times as a child. But on one fateful day as a senior in high school, Chris was so captivated by this charming city, he decided right then and there it was where he wanted to call home for the rest of his life. “It was a perfect evening,” Chris explains. “We had dinner, attended an event at the Virginia Museum, and as we were leaving town we drove down Monument just as the sun was setting, and it was bathed in this great, pink light. At that moment, I was hooked.”

Home at Last
Chris decided to attend VCU and he hasn’t moved more than a few blocks since the first day he arrived on campus more than 25 years ago. Always one to give back to the community he loves, Chris has been instrumental in many historic preservation and renovation projects, served as Vice President of the Historic Richmond Foundation and been a member of the architecture review board (CAR).
With such a strong affection for the community and its architecture, Chris realized his true calling even before he began college. At the age of 18 he earned his real estate license and was practicing his career while he worked toward his degree. His passion for the area, its people and its properties fueled his success, and he earned certification as a historic homes expert from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. A quarter century later, Chris has established himself as one of Richmond’s leading real estate brokers and built Small & Associates, a premier boutique real estate brokerage, from the ground up.

Focused on the Future
Perhaps ironically, it’s Chris’s rich historical perspective that allows him to remain on the cutting edge of Richmond real estate. He is quick to recognize the value of and adopt new technologies. When you combine the best tools with an unparalleled level of personal service, it’s no wonder so many of Chris’s clients have returned to him time and time again for all their real estate needs.
“Far and away the most rewarding aspect of my career is being able to work with and meet all the amazing people I’ve met through the years,” Chris says. “I take great pride in building those relationships, and I never lose sight of the importance of a personal touch in business.”

Richmond’s Best Choice
Talk to Chris for just a few minutes and it’s obvious real estate is in his blood. You can see the sparkle in his eye when he begins to describe a property, and that attention to detail translates into a smooth and successful transaction for each of his clients. Perhaps most importantly, his work ethic and integrity are paramount in his life and business. Chris simply does not quit until he’s helped his clients achieve their real estate goals and desires.

Chris helped my husband and me downsize several years ago to a city condo. What helped us most was his knowledge of the Richmond city neighborhoods and the history of the areas. He was able to guide us through the process of getting our home ready to place on… (more)

This is easy.

Any agent who interrupts his holiday in Italy to stay in touch and help me close a deal is an unhesitating recommendation. At 11 pm for goodness sake….

From my first phone call to Chris, he was totally responsive and balanced in his… (more)

Chris and his staff helped my family sell our house in the face of the down real estate market. If you’re going to sell a house in the Fan, I’m not sure why you’d use anyone else. He lives in the Fan, and knows the Fan like no other agent out there.
